Giving Women Their “Flowers”

For Mental Health Awareness Month in May, we held a virtual event to do our self-care card activity, #39 Create a Certificate Appreciation to give a woman their “flowers.”

Showing appreciation/gratitude can be mentally beneficial as it helps build stronger relationships and connections, bring positive emotions, and remind us of the good that already exists in our lives. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. Something small can really mean a big deal to someone. It’s the thought that counts.

With every event, we kick things off with some intention setting. The word we picked to lead us in this was “truth.” We spoke about walking and standing in our truth, which isn’t always to do but is certainly important in those moments we need to give ourselves grace.

Who is worthy of your flowers?

Following the intention-setting, we then discussed what makes a woman worthy of our “flowers” and reflected using these prompts to help guide us:

I appreciate this woman for…

  • Being there for me during tough times
  • Teaching me things
  • Not giving up on me
  • Helping me a better woman
  • Putting me on the right path
  • Being inspiring
  • Accepting me as I am

Then it was time for the fun part—creating our certificates! All that’s needed to do this activity is:

  • A picture frame
  • Microsoft Word, Canva, or other program (if you want to use a template)
  • Pictures to print or paste on certificate (optional)
  • Arts ‘n craft items (if you want to decorate frame)

Once we were done creating, it was time to share. We both created certificates that we presented to our moms for being caring, supportive, life teachers, and holding us accountable. Other women decided to create certificates for their moms as well. One woman created a certificate to give to a woman in her network for connecting her to resources to help her business grow. We thank everyone who joined us for this event.

Have you created a certificate of appreciation? If not, we hope you are now inspired to do it now. Feel free to use our Canva templates.
