Out With Resolutions. In With Intentions.

Resolutions have always felt a bit rigid—do or don’t, succeed or fail. Intentions, on the other hand, feel more authentic and expansive. Making room to grow, shift, and evolve while still moving forward with purpose.

This spirit of intentionality was at the heart of our recent Black Girl Virtual Vision Board Party, centered on our self-care card activity, #23: Bring Your Vision to Life.

We began the evening by grounding ourselves with a guided meditation led by Tianna, inviting us to close our eyes and set intentions for the year ahead. From there, each participant shared one intention word to reflect what they desire most this year. We shared words such as Self-CareGrowth, Express, Completion, Healthy, Focus, and Grounded, which created such moving energy. Our words for the year were Expansion and Improve.

We love how Melissa Kirsch with The New York Times describes choosing one word for the year as having a “north star”—a guide to help us check in to assess whether our thoughts, choices, and actions align with our bigger picture.

With our words in mind, we paused to reflect on a few guiding questions:

· What new skills do I want to learn?

· What do I need to focus on?

· What is one outcome I want out of this year?

· What brings me joy?

· How will I pour into myself?

After reflecting, it was time to do our vision board using Canva! While physical boards will always have a special place at in-person gatherings, digital boards offer incredible creative freedom—and flexibility. They can be printed and framed, set as phone or tablet wallpapers, or displayed on desktops to keep your intentions visible in multiple ways and top of mind throughout the year.

When it came time to share our vision boards, so many beautiful intentions emerged: deepening a relationship with God more intimately, making pampering and self care a priority, spending more quality time with family, becoming a yoga teacher, committing to monthly charitable work, making space to enjoy hobbies, and more.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so encouraging and uplifting. The gathering was a reminder that how we move through the year matters just as much as what we accomplish. Here’s to choosing intentions over pressure—and allowing ourselves to grow with grace all year.
